While EDSA, Sierra Leone’s national electricity supplier, generators, and more recently solar systems have increased the number of hours of electricity that Sierra Leoneans have access to, those sources still do not cover the 24-hours of reliable electricity Sierra Leoneans require. RES, through its Inverter Access Program, works to add 8 hours of additional daily electricity access through the manufacture, distribution, and leasing of power inverters, a technology that efficiently stores electricity for later use.

RES Inverter Access Program
The greatest impediment to the proliferation of inverter use across Sierra Leone is cost. At the heart of the RES’ Inverter Access Program is a financing mechanism that drastically lowers the upfront cost to inverter ownership.
Program participants can lease a 1.5 or 3.5kw inverter, paying affordable monthly lease rates based on their income. The leasing agreement includes regular maintenance and repairs.

The Inverter Access Program pilot test will commence in December 2025 in the Western Area – Urban, with the actual program slated to commence in the second quarter to 2026.
